Discuss the basics of risk adjustment and how PACE programs bring in revenue, as well as concepts and strategies that lead to more strategic and effective utilization of services.
Discuss the components of an initial and six-month assessment, how your assessments relate to the IDT care plan, and the provider’s role in the IDT care planning process.
Discuss the concept of frailty and its association with other geriatric syndromes, basic palliative care principles, and medication de-escalation.

Medical Consultant, Capstone Risk Adjustment Services
Dr. Marc Grushan is a family physician turned geriatrician who had practiced in a variety of settings over his career, including in a community health center, on faculty at the University of Colorado/Rose Family Medicine Residency, and private practice house calls, before discovering the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). He served for 10 years as a Medical Director of both the InnovAge Thornton and TRU PACE programs in Colorado prior to joining Capstone Risk Adjustment Services, an AnewHealth solution, in 2023. As a Capstone medical consultant, he teaches diagnosis and clinical documentation to providers in value-based models of care, including PACE.
Dr. Grushan received his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1992 and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Colorado. He maintains a faculty position within the University of Colorado Department of Geriatrics.
Medical Consultant, Capstone Risk Adjustment Services
Dr. Elizabeth Hengstebeck is a Physician Consultant with Capstone Risk Adjustment Services, an AnewHealth solution. She delivers training in risk adjustment methodology and clinical documentation to physicians and other clinicians who practice in Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Prior to joining Capstone, Dr. Hengstebeck served as the medical director for Senior Community Care of Michigan (SCCMI), a PACE program. In this role, she spearheaded a partnership between SCCMI and Michigan State University establishing clinical rotations for students in the medical, nurse practitioner, and nursing programs, and served as the chair for the Michigan Medical Directors Group.
Board-certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Hengstebeck devoted much of her career to working in rural, underserved communities in North Florida in both a critical access hospital and federally qualified health center. She transitioned into academic medicine, serving as the Chair of Family Medicine at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2013 to 2016. Dr. Hengstebeck returned in 2016 to her home state of Michigan and joined Michigan State University College of Human Medicine as clinical faculty.
Dr. Hengstebeck received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSU-COM) and completed a Family Medicine Residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Michigan. Following her residency, Dr. Hengstebeck served in the U.S. Navy from 1998-2002. As a Lieutenant Commander, she spent three years at the Naval Hospital in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, followed by one year at the Naval Air Station in Whiting Field, Florida.
